Watch the 2× patented multifunctional bag transform on demand.
The story of how a college sophomore with a campus job and a bold idea built a patented product empire — and now helps every aspiring founder do the same.

Chad knew he wanted to be an inventor since the second grade. Years later, as a sophomore at The Ohio State University, he noticed classmates hauling fewer books and more technology across campus — laptops, tablets, chargers, cameras. The traditional backpack hadn't caught up.
"The world is changing, the way we learn is changing. With the need for technology, we need to innovate that daily accessory. I invented the first Wearpack in my dorm room my sophomore year."
He taught himself to sew, sourced supplies off Amazon, and prototyped from a dorm-room desk — funding development with his campus job. CHVD JUSTIN launched in February 2019 and moved 300 units that first junior year.

Chad's relentless creativity led to the development of The WEARPACK® — a multifunctional detachable bag that converts between chest bag, shoulder bag, backpack, crossbody, fanny pack, and athletic-style chest accessory. His commitment to innovation earned him 2 U.S. patents.
The WEARPACK landed in major retailers including Barnes & Noble and Fanatics, secured 15+ university and collegiate licenses, and earned partnerships with HBCUs including North Carolina A&T, Hampton University, and Clark Atlanta University.

From a sophomore's sketchbook to the United States Patent & Trademark Office — the WEARPACK® is a legally protected, first-of-its-kind modular wearable system.
After the first 300 units sold, Chad went straight to customers for feedback. Women asked for adjustable straps, more padding, a water bottle holder, and reflective material for nighttime visibility. Every request became the next revision.
To sharpen the business side, he studied the founders behind Ralph Lauren and Under Armour — figuring out how to build a real brand without a big check behind it. That mindset opened the door to Division I licensing deals and a full clear-bag stadium line designed to move through game-day security.
After graduating in January 2022, Chad moved back to Cleveland and opened CHVD JUSTIN's first flagship headquarters. He won $25,000 from the Cleveland FutureLAND President's pitch competition — reinvesting it into inventory and marketing.
He was featured on WKYC, CBS 19, Roland Martin's Unfiltered on Black Star Network, PR Newswire, and Black Enterprise. He received a Senate Commendation for outstanding educational impact.
